What happens to your skin when you lose weight fast?

Losing weight can make your health much better than it used to be and make you feel like a much better person and increase your self-esteem. Now it’s easy to put on all those clothes you’ve always longed to wear. However, losing weight has its side effects and this is usually seen in loose skin. This is even more accentuated if the weight loss has been drastic and achieved in a short space of time.

This is not something you should worry about too much. After all the weight you had gained and now lost has accumulated on your body over a long period of time. Therefore, the skin has been stretched to accommodate the extra pounds, and therefore once they are lost, the skin is empty and therefore loose. It can take up to two years for the skin to regain its former elasticity and it is best not to rush the process. You can have a surgical procedure to tighten the skin, but this is generally avoided even by plastic surgeons, if they know that the loose skin has occurred as a result of a weight loss program.

Of course, you can opt for a course of skin treatments that will nourish your skin and allow it to regain its former elasticity. Remove dead skin at regular intervals so that skin circulation improves and pores remain open. Taking a hot bath with salt added to the water can help improve overall skin tone. You will also feel much more relaxed. Go to a gym and determine what your body fat percentage is. This will differentiate body fat from loose skin and you will know if you need to lose additional weight to get rid of body fat. The best way to do this is to turn fat into muscle through regular workouts. These workouts in turn would also help improve skin tone.

There are other ways to improve skin elasticity with aloe vera extract, yeast extract, and the like. These extracts can also increase the production of natural elastin and collagen in the skin, which can greatly improve your health. Other foods that can help the skin are coconut, cucumber, tomato and olives. Other supplements that replenish hyaluronic acid in the body are also recommended with the use of magnesium doses.

The skin will start to look firmer if you have the correct muscles underneath and this can be achieved through regular weight training under the supervision of a trainer. All major muscle groups should be exercised for the best results. Increase the weight you lift. Do this at regular intervals. Look at what diet you are on, avoid processed foods. Cardiovascular exercise is also a great help in tightening the skin, even if it involves walking. Continue to exercise and weight train even after you’ve accomplished what you set out to do. This alone can give your body all the care so that you never get fat again.
