Using Hypnosis For Cold And Flu Relief With Hypnotic Chicken Soup

I remember a great episode of South Park when the whole town got SARS and Stan found out that the cure (told him by a wise old garbage man) was chicken noodle soup, DayQuil (US version of Vicks) and Sprite.

We’re all sure we’ve found our best ways to deal with the common cold, I used to have Heinz tomato soup, a copy of Beano to read in bed and a couple of tablespoons of caramel syrup, which is simply delicious. On occasion I would also get one of the old style bottles of lucozade wrapped in loud yellow foil/paper.

However, it seems that chicken soup has mystical powers!

Many people turn to chicken soup when they have a cold or flu and there have even been some studies done to investigate the reasons and indeed it contains loads of ingredients that help us get through those miserable times.

As it’s the height of summer here in the UK I thought I’d jump in quick and be prepared with a lovely idea that combines the benefits of chicken soup and amplifies them with self-hypnosis and if you catch a cold the winter months ahead then you have a process to do in bed while feeling sorry for yourself.

Of course, as much as I would love to, I cannot offer a cure for the common cold, which continues to elude each and every medical field to this day, but this process can certainly help alleviate some of the symptoms as you overcome the cold with your body’s defenses.

Seven steps to using hypnosis for cold and flu relief:

Step one: Induce hypnosis. Hypnotize yourself with any medium that you have been shown and that you prefer. You can use the free downloadable session on this site to practice or read one of my how-to articles here in the blog archive.

Second step: Engage your imagination. In your mind, put yourself in a kitchen of your design: a kitchen that is a dream kitchen for you or a place that you love. Take in the sights, listen to the sounds, and be aware of how being in this wonderful kitchen makes you feel.

Look at the kitchen and the type of stove there is. Once again, notice the details, be aware of size and colors, and also notice that there is a covered saucepan on top. You may notice a little steam coming out of the pan as you get closer to it. Again, really imagine the smallest details about the pan: the size, the color, the dimensions, the type.

Imagine removing the lid to reveal the pan. Watch the steam rise and let the scent fill your nostrils. become aware of the depth of smell and the simplicity with which the scent seems to fill your senses of well-being and harmony.

When you look into the pan, you notice the color of the soup inside, see its texture, and hear the sound of it simmering; You notice that it is the most perfect looking chicken soup you have ever seen. Create it in your mind in great detail, let the scent continue to emanate, and begin to imagine how good it is going to taste. When you really get the feeling that this is the best soup you can imagine, move on to the next step.

Step three: Begin to imagine that the soup also has some kind of additional, healthy and energizing properties, something that you can notice and observe. Maybe you’ll start to get a craving for soup so you can pull out the kitchen utensils you need from the drawer while the aroma continues to fill your senses.

Using whatever utensil you choose, pour or spoon the soup into a bowl, then sit comfortably at the kitchen table.

When sitting, you can choose to look out the window and enjoy the most comforting view to look at while sitting. Let it be something that encourages and comforts you, a vision that uplifts and inspires you. Let it energize you and give you clarity of thought as you watch again the soup on your plate reaching the perfect temperature to eat, the aroma rises to your nose again and you get an idea of its properties. When you’ve spent the appropriate amount of time setting this up accordingly, continue to the next step.

Step four: Now you hold your spoon, imagine how it feels in your hand, let it meet the soup and start eating it. notice the sensation in your mouth and get the taste on your tongue.

Notice how it soothes as it goes down your throat, sending kindness and comfort as it goes. Notice the comforting warmth of the soup as it reaches your belly. Then imagine him sending his goodness throughout the rest of your body. Imagine it healing you, imagine it lifting you up and overpowering anything unwanted. Imagine that your properties are doing what you feel you need most right now.

Get involved in the idea that it is affecting and influencing your throat, nostrils and ears and that it is calming, relaxing and comforting. Really take all the time you need here to notice some changes.

step five: As you take more spoonfuls, taking your time for each one, imagine that the effects of goodness and well-being begin to spread to other areas of your body; notice how it warms and heals your chest and the properties of the soup are affecting those areas in and around your chest and soothing. Imagine and notice that any infection or virus is also weakening and diminishing.

You may want to imagine the effects of the soup as a color, sensation, or sound that begins to dominate the areas it targets. Notice a healthy warmth, a healthy glow that emanates from deep within you and begins to dominate more with each spoonful you consume. Let all the effects happen just as you imagine a perfect remedy. Spend enough time letting each spoonful have a positive effect on each area you need to gain from this process.

step six: When you are sure that the feelings are going to stay with you and you have had enough soup to really give you a depth of good feeling and well-being, then it is time to end this session. Tell yourself that the effects of this session stay with you for a good period of time and continue to help you during this time.

Then you come out of hypnosis by counting yourself down, wiggling your fingers and toes and starting to let yourself get better!

You may find some additional benefits from having some real chicken soup after a session like this and imagining the effects increasing as you actually eat it. Allow yourself to hope that it will have a big effect and you will combine the vast placebo effect with this mental imagery process, magnified with hypnosis: what else can someone do to help with cold and flu symptoms?

So there you have it, a beautiful way to combine a so-called typical remedy and the power of self-hypnosis to help relieve symptoms of the common cold and flu.
