Train and track your hunting dog with a GPS and an electronic collar

When Dawson heads out into the swamps to pick up the duck or runs through the woods after the rabbit, you lose track of your animal. Well, not anymore! With a dog tracking system, you can track exactly where Dawson has gone and you’ll even be able to tell if the dog is moving or stopped.

There are now great lightweight tracking systems that keep you aware of the exact location of your hunting dog. SportsDog’s TEK series (about $600) is one of them that tracks your pets up to 7 miles with a 75-mile diameter screen. The system includes a handheld device that includes a Global Positioning System antenna that locates you and an antenna built into the dog’s collar that updates the dog’s position and sends the message to your display locator.

The system shows where you are and where each dog is in relation to you and the starting point. With this system, the GPS receiver does not provide a trail of the animals beyond the locations. Quickly though, you can easily track your hunting dogs and find out how far each dog is from your position and which direction the dog is going.

The portable unit is waterproof to a depth of 5 feet; The collar the dog wears is submersible to a depth of 25 feet, so you won’t have to worry about your pet going in and out of the water while hunting. Battery life lasts approximately 20 hours depending on frequency of use and recharges from a 120/240 volt AC wall outlet in approximately 2 hours. The charging connector is protected by a rubber cover.

Even better is the fact that the system includes an electronic collar. Not only can you see the dogs on the screen, but you can also correct them on the same handheld device. It combines two systems in one so you can track up to 12 dogs at once and use a fast, thoughtful e-collar that works for a wide range of dogs. The E-Collar is a separate collar that snaps onto the GPS Collar so that the correction device can be purchased later.

With Profile Builder, you can set a different program for each dog and provide different settings for each dog with different levels of stimulation, tone, and vibration. Because Profile Builder differentiates between dogs and collars, the same collar can be used for many different dogs. Simply configure each dog independently, assign each one a collar color, and go hunting. When the hunt is over, reassign the collar to another dog and switch the menu to the new dog. Profile Builder keeps the proper stimulation set for each dog.
