Tips for having a successful Baby Shower

Baby showers are a celebration of new life that is all about coming together as a family. This is a way of bringing people together where everyone can enjoy fun games, delicious snacks, and lots of baby talk.

A baby shower gives friends and family the opportunity to support new parents in their joy at being able to bring a little bundle of new life into the world.

A baby shower has a history of being a time when friends and family brought gifts to help new parents, but no party was involved.

Over time, this tradition has evolved into much more elaborate baby showers. Today, unlike its beginnings, showers are no longer exclusively for women. Today it is quite acceptable to invite close male friends, as well as the children of the guests.

Families these days are made up of all different unique combinations and there really is no right or wrong way to make your invite list. The main thing to keep in mind is that everyone is there to celebrate the life and love of the new addition to the family.

So now that you know who to invite, let’s talk about the menu. First and foremost, you want to give the mom-to-be top priority. When women are pregnant, they often have to avoid certain foods, either to eat or smell. Just the smell of some foods will cause nausea in the expectant mother.

You also need to know the new mom’s favorite foods, and if they’re not on the foods to avoid list, you’ll want to be sure and include a few of them on your menu.

Next, you need to look at your budget. Then you can start matching your menu to your theme. You may only want to eat snacks, fancy sandwiches, and delicious desserts if your theme is, say, a tea theme. On the other hand, if your theme is more of a garden theme, you may want to select foods like fruit and vegetable dishes. So the lesson is to keep the theme in mind when making the menu.

Foods that are in season will cost less and can help with your budget. The time of day you select for your shower can also affect your menu. An afternoon shower may require just finger food, while an evening shower may require more than a full dinner menu.

Try to bring fun to your shower. Adults tend to sit and have small group conversations and never have the fun of playing at a party the way kids do.

There are many games specifically for baby showers, so search the net and find some that you think would work well with the people you know are going to attend.

To add more fun to the party, consider giving a small gift to the winner of each game. Before the party, organize the items you will need for the game and place each prize in a Ziploc bag and mark on the bag which game it is for.

Then, on the day of the party, you can break out your game bags and let everyone have a blast.

Don’t forget to have some decorations. They will really make the event more of a party atmosphere. Maybe some stars on the ceiling, some flickering candles or balloons with shades of colored ribbons and streamers. You may want to use some fancy flower arrangements and give them as prizes for the winners of your game. This way, they can take them home with them when they leave, but everyone can enjoy them as decorations while the party is going on.

To keep everyone entertained before they even arrive, put up some cute themed baby shower signs on arrowed stakes in the streets leading up to the party.

And don’t forget to take lots of baby shower photos. Everyone will love remembering the moment in pictures years later.

I hope these tips have given you some ideas on how to spice up your next baby shower. Just remember that the idea is for everyone to relax, have fun and celebrate the beauty of a new life.
