Restaurants in Paphos

Paphos (also sometimes spelled “Paphos”) is a city located on the western coast of Cyprus. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, with relics from the Neolithic period having been found in the area, as well as ruins and artifacts from the classical, Byzantine, medieval and more modern periods. Today, however, Paphos is primarily known as a holiday destination. It is particularly popular with British tourists, but people from other European countries, and indeed from all over the world, come to Paphos for their holidays.

When you visit Paphos, aside from the great weather and water activities, there are a host of places to visit and things to see in the area. These include:

* Paphos Harbour: This is a pedestrian area with many good restaurants and several tourist shops. Small boats can be seen, and some are available for charter or tours. The most notable landmark is Paphos Castle, which is a historic stone fortress, and is definitely worth a visit.

* Coral Bay: This is a tourist area a few miles north of town. There are a number of tourist hotels, shops, and restaurants in Coral Bay, but the location is best known for its fine-sand beach (many other nearby beaches are rocky).

* Tombs of the Kings – This is a historic burial site containing stone tombs that were built during pre-Christian times.

* Rock of Aphrodite: This is the place where the sea goddess Aphrodite was supposedly born. It is also known as “Petra Tou Romiou” (meaning “Rock of the Greeks”), as another legend says that the large rock at the site was thrown by Digenis Acritas, a local Christian hero, to stop invading ships. Saracens. Aphrodite’s Rock is not actually in Paphos, but can be found on the way from Paphos to Limassol.
