Meet Larry Schweikart of Wild World of History

Larry Schweikart of Wild World of History

Former rock drummer Larry Schweikart has found an intriguing way to make a living by writing and teaching. His latest project is the popular history curriculum, Wild World of History. And Heasley & Partners has been helping him develop the brand and launch his new venture.

After decades of teaching to standing room only classes at the University of Dayton, New York Times best selling author Professor Larry Schweikart wanted to continue sharing his facts-based conservative perspective on history with a bigger audience. He already had a huge following from his many books, including the massive, best-selling A Patriot’s History of the United States, and was a regular guest on Fox News and CNN during election years.

But he knew there was a bigger opportunity to make a difference with more young people than just his students, especially since studies show that Americans are woefully uninformed about the past. He had the idea to create a history curriculum that is complete enough to help home school parents skip the time-consuming research of cobbling together their own curriculum, but has room for fun too.

The result was Wild World Of History with the catchy name and fun graphics that have become the hallmark of the brand. We helped him define his message and tone, crafted photography standards, video production, curriculum development and event marketing that have made this product an instant success. It’s now one of the most popular home school curriculums available with its own thriving VIP membership program that helps him sell his products and services directly to his core audience.

But even with his many accomplishments, he says that his most satisfying work has been helping to educate the next generation of American historians. He’s still a full-time teacher at his private home in Chandler, and is also a frequent guest on radio shows across the country. And he’s never lost his love for the craft, saying that it is still as exciting now as it was when he first started teaching in 1976.

The course includes a student book and teacher guide, as well as PDFs of maps and slides that are referenced in the videos. There are fifteen video lessons that can be completed in about a week. The reading assignments in the APHUS book will take students about two weeks to complete.

This is a great course that is well worth the price of admission. However, it is important for homeschoolers to be aware that this course, like many history courses, reflects the author’s opinions. Unlike the 1620 Default course, which takes a positive view of America, this course is not neutral. It embraces the idea of American Exceptionalism and condemns slavery. Those who want a more objective view of history should consider another curriculum.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the wild world of history is the diversity it presents. Each corner of the globe has its own rich tapestry of historical events, cultural developments, and societal changes. From the pyramids of Egypt to the Great Wall of China, from the Renaissance in Europe to the rise and fall of empires in the Americas, every region has its own unique story to tell.
