Government Job Search Techniques for Rural Indian Women

India is a traditional country where women are coming out of their shells, only recently. The rise of information technology in the country paved the way for many young women to study further and get a job. Although urban women have been exposed to various types of job opportunities from the previous generation, the job market still seems to be very scary for rural women. Those women who have little exposure to the outside world can try their hand at government jobs. It does not require a very high fluency in English. Here are some important guidelines to help rural women optimize their government job search.

1. Start planning for your future very early in your life. Survey public sector job opportunities in and around your area. Plan your study accordingly.

2. Focus your government job search on fields such as teaching, medical services, and studies related to accounts and commerce. Most villages have a serious shortage of doctors, teachers and people willing to serve in the rural branch of the banks. You can easily fill this gap by choosing particular themes.

3. Get in the habit of visiting the local government library regularly. The library will have magazines like Job News that will list all vacancies in the public sector. They will help you a lot in your government job search.

4. Start preparing for the UPSC and other state government-oriented exams as early as your freshman year at college. Check how exams are carried out throughout your study. Collect questionnaires from several years. Talk to your elders who take these exams and improvise your preparation.

5. There are many assigned quotas for rural women in these jobs. There are quotas for poor women, daughters of farmers, daughters of widowed mothers, first-generation graduates, and community scholarships for women. Take full advantage of this advantage in your government job search campaign. Check with your teachers and village administrative officials and prepare all the necessary documents before sitting for exams.

6. Remember that the early bird gets the fruit. The sooner you apply for such jobs, the better chance you have of landing them sooner. If possible, get involved in part-time jobs related to the job you plan to apply for. You can show this as previous experience when you show up for the final interview.

Landing a public sector job is not rocket science. Compared to the efforts made by urban youth to enter institutions like IIT, these efforts are very limited. Try your level best for guaranteed success.
