Creating effective press releases for powerful SEO

Google News still includes press releases in the news it aggregates. Also, press releases are excluded from Google’s algorithms because they are considered news. Anything with news is by definition current, so it goes straight to the top of the search engine results page (SERP).

Assuming, that is, that your press release was really well crafted and is widely read and appears on an authoritative site. Because even if the algorithm changes don’t affect them because it’s news, you still need to produce high-quality content, even if it’s a press release, if you want to rank high in the SERPS.

  • Keyword rich content — Will your audience actively search for the terms you use? It is important that you include terms that your audience wants information about. Use keywords and keyword phrases that your audience will search for. But, don’t stuff yourself, be natural, write for humans.
  • targeted content — Does your audience care about the content of your press release? It is important that someone wants to read your news and share it with others. If no one wants to read it, it won’t matter where you are. So, write it for your audience.
  • Placement Of content — Does your press release appear on valuable websites? If your article is well written and appears on authoritative websites, it will be noticed more by search engines and your target audience.
  • well edited Delighted — Does the press release have spelling and grammatical errors? Now, you’re not going to get punished for a little mistake here and there, but obviously raw and unrefined content, even within your writing, will rank lower than something that’s more refined.
  • full content — Is the content broad and comprehensive or does it only tell part of the story? Is a substantial amount of information missing that makes the content questionable? Writing a press release that doesn’t tell the whole story, or just one side of the story, and is too short, can result in content not ranking as high as more inclusive content.
  • suitable holder — Google just says that “a title must include at least 10 characters and be between 2 and 22 words.” Not very useful. In truth, a longer title, but no more than 120 characters, will be more effective because it includes more search terms. Also, it’s important not to use puns as was fashionable in the days of the paper newspapers keywords that your audience will recognize to click on and learn more about your niche topic.

The important thing is not to stop using press releases. If you don’t currently submit them, start now. Create and submit to reputable news outlets that announce major events, original information, and unique news that are of real value to humans within your niche and you’ll see a substantial reward in terms of SERPS.
