Any noise

You just huff and puff through life until something shoves a stop sign in your face and you come to a screeching stop. This is where you are forced to stop, to take a look at your life and ask yourself if you are heading in the right direction.

As if the world was paralyzed literally and figuratively with the arrival of the Covid-19 virus. Airplane wings were clipped. The doors of the countries were simply closed and the governments locked the citizens inside their own homes.

The whole world stopped. People had time to think and we saw and experienced many things that we had never seen or experienced before:

    • The water in the canals of Venice became crystal clear. Fish came back. Even dolphins and jellyfish returned to play in the canals.
    • In an Eastern country, people were able to breathe fresh air again, because the factories that pollute the air so much were closed.
    • People in northern India were once again able to see the Himalayan mountains hundreds of kilometers away, also because the pollution stopped for the time being.

So one sees how we are torturing this land; she’s crying. People are destroying the earth and we don’t realize it. But I also noticed a few other things:

    • Humans are far from in control: a tiny virus (not even alive!) can cripple all of humanity.
    • We spend most of our energy on money, but when trouble starts, it doesn’t matter how much money we have.
    • We are going in the wrong direction and leaving behind what is most important. We spend minimal time and energy on our relationships. When the dust settles and we are trapped between the four walls of our houses, we only have each other. And relationships are what keep us together.
    • People are fragile.

In a one-way world, it’s hard not to get carried away, and most of the time it happens without us noticing.

So it’s good to be forced to stop and reconsider the great truths of our lives. To return to the original purpose of our existence here on earth: 1So, my dear Christian friends, fellow believers in following this call on high, take a good look at Jesus. He is the centerpiece of everything we believe…

You and I are called to be set apart for God. Separated to be here on earth for Jesus. Let’s remember that and live it. The rest is just noise.

Holy Scripture
Hebrews 3:1-6

Reflection
What is your focus?
What do you have to change?
What is your vocation?

Prayer
Father, I am sorry that I have been swept away by the currents of life. I am sorry that I forgot that my first purpose here on earth is to glorify your Name. Please show me where I have to live differently. I want to focus on Jesus only. Amen.
