7 tips to organize your house quickly

So summer is here and you suddenly realize you’ve done your “spring cleaning” but you’re still drowning in “stuff.” Some people have junk bins… some people have junk yards, some people have junk rooms and unfortunately some people have junk houses. No matter what you have, I can help you minimize your clutter quickly and efficiently.

1. First determine what you want. What is your cleaning goal? Is it the whole house, one room, or just the porch? Want to have less to dust? Or would you like to have a house that is easy to keep clean?

2. Whatever it is, you should start by writing it down. Doing so will help keep you on track. Decide what needs to be done and commit to a time frame for completing it. I would suggest writing it down on separate pages of a notebook. When you do that, you can write down exactly what you want to do in each room, as well as what has been completed.

3. Once you figure out what needs to be done and in how long, I suggest doing it room by room. Do not jump from one area to another until the room you are working on has been completed. If you bounce from room to room, it will take twice as long to finish your cleaning project.

4. In each area you start in, a few things will be needed. You need a large garbage bag, a donation box, and a box to put away or store. Your goal should be to fill the trash box and donate and keep no more than one storage or save box per room.

5. When you start reviewing your articles, really decide what you need. Do you have clothes you haven’t worn in over a year and a half? If so, and you never plan to wear it again, then it’s time to get rid of it! Donating items to local charities can often be a tax deduction too, so keep that in mind! Think of it this way, you will have given it to people in need and will save money at the end of the year through your taxes. (Consult a licensed tax advisor for more information on this).

6. Next, if you find yourself lacking ambition, enlist a friend or family member to help you out. Sometimes we need a hand because the job is too big for one person. If you don’t have anyone to help you, you can always search and find an organizer or housekeeper in your local area. Keep in mind that housewives are usually engaged in the simple task of tidying up, disinfecting, dusting and things of that nature. Professional organizers are generally the professionals you are most likely to need. They are not the least expensive, but they are worth the investment to have a tidy house for life. Many professional organizers can teach you tips and tricks to help keep your home organized.

7. Next, if you have family members who are known for putting things in random places; I would recommend reviewing everything that was done and where everything belongs. If you have children, ask them to help you organize your own space. This will allow them to learn to organize while taking responsibility for choosing where things belong. Help them out, but let them have some choices about how things should be.

Remember!

If you want to have your home completely organized, the best thing you can do is take action. You can plan and think about it forever, but if you never start and finish your plan, you will continue to feel overwhelmed and stressed in your own home. Take it back! Make your home the sanctuary it should be, a place of peace and relaxation.

If you want to organize your house quickly, do not forget to follow these tips and remember to have goals with a schedule. If you really want to “lighten the load,” stop clinging to things that collect dust and space and remember this helpful tip. If you were to lose everything in your home due to a natural disaster, what are the things that you feel are completely irreplaceable? Those are the things to keep organized and safe, preferably all in one place in case an emergency arises, everything else except people is replaceable so don’t be afraid to let go. Good luck and you can do it!
