When can you start training an American Pitbull Terrier puppy on a spring pole?

We started training for spring polo by letting our pups play tug of war at their own comfort level. They will only pull so hard. If you only have one puppy, you can hold a tug-of-war toy and let him pull, don’t pull hard because it can cause his teeth to fall out.

Once the dog has its permanent teeth for at least 3 months, you can start slowly. What we do is place a pole closer to the ground and keep putting it a few inches higher each week until it finally starts to hang.

This is not something you want to rush as it can cause permanent damage to your dog’s teeth, so don’t force it. Some dogs love this and some don’t. If you have a weird pit bull who doesn’t like to play with a spring post, respect that and don’t try to force it.

There are inexpensive ways to make a very strong spring post that I recommend. The ones I bought in a store are broken. If you take a look at the videos online, there are many that show how to make a homemade spring pole for an American Pitbull Terrier or any other breed that likes to hang up.

This is a very good exercise for your dog because many American Pitbull Terriers have high drive and need this type of exercise so they don’t run around and drive you crazy. You will keep him happy by buying him a spring stick.

In my experience, a spring post does not make an American Pit Bull Terrier aggressive. It just helps you relieve all that energy you have. It’s a lot of fun and they really love it. If you happen to get an American Pitbull Terrier that doesn’t like hanging from a spring pole, you should let it be. You can’t make them do it.

I once had a dog who really didn’t want to do it. I left him alone. We let him watch the other dogs do it and one day he just jumped on it and he loved it. I guess he just wanted to do what the other members of the pack were doing. We do not force any puppies to train for a spring pole. We let the puppy decide.
