Thread earrings for babies and children

Before I started in the baby and children’s jewelry business, I had never heard of screws. When I first got my inquiry about them, I thought they were those old-fashioned screw-down earrings our mothers and grandmothers wore, whose ears weren’t pierced.

But the screws are not this style of earrings. They are set or pierced ears and have a normal rod that goes through the earlobe, but with this new type of earring, the pointed end is not exposed. For mothers who are concerned about the safety of their babies or children, the screw cap solves the problem. They don’t need to worry about the spot getting into their child, for example, when he sleeps. But the best aspect of screws is security.

The rod of a screw-back earring is like a screw, and the “back” or “nut” as it is sometimes called, screws down onto the shaft of the rod. It can be screwed on tight so little fingers can’t pry the back off. Little fingers playing with their earrings is the number one reason kids lose one of their earrings. So many moms tell me they have six earrings in their daughter’s jewelry box, and none of them match!

If the back simply falls off, it isn’t long before the earring falls off and is lost. If the earrings are made of good quality sterling silver or 10K or 14K gold, the cost of these losses can add significantly. I frequently get inquiries from moms asking if I will sell them just one of a pair of earrings. Screws solve this problem.

Of course, not all children play with their earrings and babies. For example, if babies get their ears pierced at a very young age, they don’t touch them and simply never feel their earrings once the piercing heals. It’s toddlers and preschoolers who tend to play the most, especially those with a new piercing. Therefore, not all mothers have this problem with their children. But it’s not just the child fiddling with your earrings that causes the loss of an earring. Often, it is when a mother is removing her child’s clothing, pulling a top over the head of her child or baby, that she misses a normal earring. The clothing pulls on the back of the earring, ripping it off the rod. The mother may not be aware of this at the time. It is later, when she notices the earring is missing, by which time, it may be long gone.

For these reasons, children’s screw-back earrings are invaluable, ultimately saving them money on new earrings.
