History of Interlaken

When the Reformation era entered the city in the 16th century, the monastery became the seat of the provincial governor. It used to be called Aarmuhle, the name of the mill in the monastery. But as people commonly called it Interlaken, the name Aarmuhle was officially changed to Interlaken in 1891.
